This past Friday was one of the craziest I’ve ever experienced. Friday morning we woke up to the news that the suspects in the bombing had engaged in a shoot out with the police about a mile away from our house, and one suspect was on the loose in our neighborhood. Our town was in lockdown, and we were instructed to stay indoors and not to open the door except for a uniformed officer.
So–if you’re trapped indoors all day with a bunch of nervous energy, what can you do? I decided that THIS was why I buy so much fabric! I had plenty to work on, and managed to finish 3 quilt tops in one day.
When we were finally allowed outdoors, we took Simon to the park to stretch our legs, and while we were there we heard a round of gunfire and rushed home. We learned that the suspect had been cornered and was quickly captured. What relief! People lined the streets of Watertown and cheered for the police as they slowly filed out of town. We are all so happy to have a bit of normalcy restored.
The next day I attended the Boston Modern Quilt Guild meeting. I was so happy to be amongst friends, and we needed to brainstorm about what we can do as a guild to respond to the crazy events of the past week.
We’re cooking up an idea and will reveal the details soon, so stay tuned!
Great job with finishing up all the quilt tops!
Love these fabulous fabrics!
I am so glad too that everything is back to normal.
Good job using that time to get so much done. I would have been glued to the TV I’m afraid and not been able to be so productive lol! Even on the other side of the country I was feeling shocked to see all of this happening within blocks of where I use to live and work in Cambridge and Watertown. I’m glad things are getting more back-to-normal now.
Love your quilts…especially the cute pow wow quilt 😉 and so glad you were safe!!!!
Shocking what disturbed people can do and very sad the lives that have been permanently damaged because of the events of a week ago.
On a lighter note, I LOVE the second quilt. I’m glad your nervous energy was so productive. I think I would have hidden under the bed!
good that you and your family stayed safe – I live on the west coast, but just could not watch the continuous news reports that repeated and repeated all day, so I too sewed – I only made up one quilt tho – love the stacks of fabric you pulled.
Glad you and your family were safe and you were able to keep calm and sew on! Looking forward to hearing about the guild’s plan.
That must have been such a stressful experience! I love the good folks quilt . you made
that’s an experience that no one wants to have. I can understand you were extremely nervous. Hope it will be better soon.
the pow wow is finished. Yeah! Looks wonderful. I didn’t start mine as there was almost no sewing time over here and I keep on finisihing the quilt for my daughter (veeeerrrryyyyy slowly).
The stack: I’d take all fabrics. Even scraps of this stack. Wonderful. Send it here to me! 🙂
These were all so beautiful to see in person. I can’t wait to see them quilted and finished now. ::wink wink:: Great seeing you Saturday!
I’m so glad things can hopefully get back to normal for you guys! Even with all that crazy going on around you, you still managed to crank out some amazing work! Love the Pow-Wow quilt and your dGS top is just amazing! And those lovely stacks of fabric? So excited to see what they become! Maybe we need to lock you in your house more often. Just you know, without the crazy terrorist part.
Wow, I missed that you had finished up all your tops this weekend!!! So much beauty from an ugly event:-)
Thank you for letting us into your moments that were so terrifying. I also live way over on the West coast up north, I had the TV on during most the day to my news channels while I sew, turn that off and may watch regular TV. Went to bed Thursday and all thing were so different. One of those two suspects dead and the other with manhunt after him. If I had been where you were I don’t think I could have made such beautiful quilts sew straight I don’t think so. I give you high marks for being able to have gone through such an ordeal and having quilt for the trauma. You feel so helpless knowing you can’t do anything for people so far away. I wish there had been something because our hearts and caring was wanted to give you support. Well, so much for a shrt note. It is just good that you are safe and no more bad will happen from these two men.
These are all gorgeous!! Sorry that I missed seeing them but I’m so happy to hear about the Boston charity block drive that you’re organizing for us – awesome!!
so glad you are all safe.xo
i plan to sew my block tomorrow morning for Quilts for Boston.
Oh goodness what a day you had. My anxiety levels were raised just reading your account, letting alone living it. I’m so glad you were safe. I love the tops you made. I have the pattern to do the arrow head one, just have to find the right fabric for it. I love the fabrics you’ve pulled for your next project too.
