Today was the best kind of day– one where many things seem to go right!
The day didn’t start out so great. It’s a bit cold, and very gray. Fall is definitely upon us. And while I love fall, I often deal with headaches in this season. So it’s kind of a love/hate thing 🙂
Most of the day went as usual– me, in front of my computer, doing work work work work work.
After finishing a couple of things on my to-do list, I decided I deserved a break, so I headed to the thrift store to see if they had anything worth bringing home to cut up and felt. I hadn’t been to the thrift store in a couple of months, so I knew they’d have a good bit of stuff I hadn’t seen before. And to my great surprise, I found not one, not two, but FIVE cashmere sweaters! Some in colors I didn’t have before, and each time I add a new color to the mix, it feels like I have a million new possibilities for color combinations! Today I got one black, one green, one gray, one gray and red blend, one red, and one oatmeal colored cashmere sweater. Already– this day was looking up.
Then, when I got home, I got a call from a friend who I spent the day with yesterday making some homemade jam. Our golden raspberry jam set great, and her peach jam looked amazing, but my cherry-apricot was looking a bit soupy yesterday. I still have trouble putting the recommended amount of sugar in the jam– it’s just so much! Anyway, back to today– my friend called to tell me that the jar of my apricot cherry jam she had kept had set overnight. I checked my jars, and sure enough, all set! Woo-hoo!
Last (and probably best, because that’s what you save for last, right?) I had an email in my inbox from the editor of an academic journal where I had submitted my last research paper, and it has been provisionally accepted! This feels the best, because I’ve worked on that paper for YEARS (literally), and getting some strong publications is what will get me a job when I finish grad school. So– as if I needed a lift after my sweater and jam luck, this really took the cake.
I know every day can’t be like this, so I’m savoring it for what it was, and I’m taking the evening off to celebrate. That is, if I can keep my hands off those cashmere sweaters…
