I made this quilt for my sister using Anna Maria Horner’s innocent crush fabrics, and Ashley’s (from film in the fridge) “rubik’s crush” design.
When I first saw this quilt on Ashely’s blog, I knew it would be the perfect design for a birthday gift for my sister. I contacted Ashley, who graciously allowed me to copy her design and fabric choices. I’m so glad she didn’t mind– I just love her quilts!
I decided to back the quilt using a flannel print from Anna Maria Horner’s Folksy Flannel line (this print is called buttoned up berry). I love how warm and soft it made this quilt– perfect for getting through the winter months.
Before I gifted the quilt to my sister, I showed the quilt to a family friend who came by to visit. She loved the quilt and offered to buy it off me on the spot! I had to resist, since it wasn’t for sale, but in lieu of purchasing that quilt, she commissioned a similar quilt using the other colorway of Innocent Crush fabrics. I modified the design a bit to keep the piecing simpler so I could put the quilt top together a little more quickly, and I’m nearly ready to quilt this second quilt. I can’t wait to get it done– there’s something so satisfying about finishing up a quilt!

[...] colorway. This quilt came about because when I was home over winter break, a good family friend saw the quilt I made for my sister for her birthday, and wanted to know if she could buy it from me. She had a specific purpose for [...]
I love that you backed the quilt with that flannel! I plan on making this quilt when the pattern comes out in April & just might have to borrow your idea…
Hi Katie,
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I highly recommend using flannel to back this quilt (or any quilt), it makes the quilt so cozy and warm. Happy sewing!
